Episode 3-Normandy with Friends

My escape to France continues apace post the sad but inevitable end of my equestrian excursion and oenophilic exploration of Bordeaux. I next set off to meet my childhood bestie Stanley and his young beautiful bride of 20 years Gayle for a historical exploration of Normandy.

I took the train from Bordeaux to Paris and enjoyed a delightful 3K walk through its streets (with my wheeled duffle in tow) from Gare Montparnesse to Gare St Lazare where I caught the train to Bayeux.

Stanley had made the tour and restaurant reservations so all I had to do was chill and show up on time. He did a great job. We had a private tour of Omaha and Utah beaches and museums and D-day sites in addition to seeing the Normandy Museum in Caen and the Bayeau Tapestry and Normandy Museum in Bayeau.

Our last stop was at the US Cemetery where President Biden the world’s leaders commemorated the 80th Annuversary of D-Day. One can’t help but be moved and to feel blessed listening to sounds of taps while the American flag is lowered at sunset at the cemetery.

And of course we ate at great restaurants including the Michelin Star Chateaux de Sully 714.

There’s something very special about having friends from childhood. I can’t remember a time in my life when I didn’t know Stanley just like I can’t remember a time in my life when I didn’t know my parents and my siblings. You just can’t make new old friends and we had the best time!

Next stop Chamonix e la meilleure petite amie de la planète terre!
