Episode 11 – Pedrouzo to Santiago

Ureka! We did it! We were on the Camino before 7:00 am and covered 13.88 miles at a pace of 19 minutes 27 seconds so even with two short stops the total was less than 5 hours and we were in the security line at the Catedral at 11:40! The noon pilgrim service was packed but we had a nice view from where we stood. The only disappointment of the day was that they didn’t light the Botafumeiro. Seems it’s only lit nowadays when they have a sponsor to foot the 400 euro expense. Today it will be lit because Father Vincent and his group are sponsoring but we won’t be there because we are taking the bus to tour to Fisterre.

After the service, we checked into the hotel, had some tapas and headed to the Pilgrims Office where Hannah made a new friend from the Czech Republic, received her Compostela with her name in Latin and her mileage certificate showing 251 kilometers (150 miles)! Actually I think they shorted her because my track my ride app dailies total over 160 miles. Then we rested and hit the streets for souvenir shopping, more tapas and Santiago’s famous street performers including La Tuna without which no trip to Santiago would be complete.

Now we are off to Fisterre the place which in the Middle Ages was considered to be farthest western geographic extent of the then known world.

Buen Camino
